RBC® Visa‡ Gift Cards

Effective June 1st, 2021, RBC will discontinue the RBC VISA Prepaid Gift Card Program. As of this date, RBC Royal Bank will no longer issue new or replacement cards including for lost, stolen or expired cards. Cardholders requiring replacement cards will instead have any remaining card balances returned to them directly by RBC.

Existing RBC VISA Prepaid Gift Cards that have been issued will otherwise continue to operate and be supported until the card expires as set out in the RBC Royal Bank Prepaid Gift Card Agreement. Funds on the cards will not expire.

Cardholders may continue to access cardholder support services and use the phone number on the back of the card until the card expires. You can contact us through this number if your card needs to be replaced after June 1st, 2021 (for example, because your card is lost, stolen or expired).

The following outlines the fees and charges that may be applicable to RBC Visa Gift Cards purchased at an RBC Royal Bank branch. Fees are subject to change.

Fees and Charges

Purchase Fee A fee of $3.95 is charged when the Card is initially purchased from us. There are no fees for any subsequent transactions using the Card.
Foreign Currency Conversion Transactions in a foreign currency will be converted into Canadian dollars no later than the date we post the transaction to the Card at an exchange rate that is 2.5% over a benchmark rate Royal Bank of Canada pays the payment card company on the date of the conversion.
  • RBC Visa Gift Cards are issued by Royal Bank of Canada.
  • RBC Visa Gift Cards may only be loaded once, at time of purchase, and they are not reloadable. Cards may be used to make purchases anywhere in the world where Visa cards are accepted. They cannot be used to withdraw cash at an ATM or to receive any other cash withdrawal or make financial payments at a financial institution.
  • While RBC Visa Gift Cards require an expiry date for payment processing, the funds loaded to the card WILL NOT EXPIRE. Should there be funds remaining on your card after the expiry date found on the front of your card, please call 1-866-466-8079 free of charge to have a new replacement card issued with the remaining balance carried over.
  • RBC Visa Gift Cards do not have any of the following fees and charges: usage & maintenance fee, replacement fee, activation fee, inactivity fee and IVR fee.
  • RBC Visa Gift Cards are not insured by the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation.
