Basic Coverage Features

In addition to emergency medical assistance, Basic Coverage includes the following features.

Unlimited Emergency Medical & Hospital Coverage

 
There is no dollar maximum to your benefits.

 
Direct Payment of your Medical Bills
 
Whenever possible, call us before you're treated to arrange for direct payment to doctors/hospitals. If you're asked to pay minor bills yourself, you will be reimbursed for all eligible expenses.

 
Emergency Medical Transportation
 
If you must be transferred to a medical facility, coverage includes transportation to the nearest approved medical facility, or if medically necessary, your return (including any covered family, companions and pets) to Canada.

 
Emergency Dental Coverage
 
Emergency dental treatment ordered by a licensed dentist is covered. Coverage also provides up to $300 CAD for relief of dental pain and up to $1,500 CAD to continue necessary dental treatment after your return to Canada.

 
Companion Transportation
 
If you are travelling alone and are hospitalized, coverage includes travel expenses and Travel HealthProtector® Insurance for a companion to be with you.

  • Physiotherapy
  • Private nursing
 
Hospital Allowance
 
If you are hospitalized for 48 hours or more, coverage provides up to $50 CAD per day (to a maximum of $500 CAD) for hospital expenses such as telephone or television rental.

 
Subsistence Allowance
 
If a medical emergency delays your return to Canada, coverage provides up to $175 CAD per day (to a maximum of $1,750 CAD) for commercial accommodation (e.g hotels), meals and other related expenses during the delay.

 
Return to your Trip Destination
 
If you are returned to Canada to receive immediate medical attention, and the physician determines that no further treatment is required, coverage includes a one-way flight back to your scheduled destination. Certain conditions apply.

 
Return of your Dog or Cat
 
If you must return to Canada due to a medical emergency, coverage includes the cost of one-way transportation (up to $500 CAD) for your dog(s) or cat(s) travelling with you.

 
Domestic Services
 
If you return to Canada by air ambulance due to a medical emergency, and your medical condition restricts your ability to perform domestic services, coverage includes the cost of reasonable domestic services for your primary residence provided by a registered domestic service business up to a maximum of $250.
