What is RBC cross-border banking?
It’s a comprehensive banking package designed to fulfill the U.S. banking needs of RBC's cross-border clients living, working or regularly travelling in the U.S. while, at the same time, providing direct access to their Canadian accounts.
How can I apply for RBC cross-border banking?
It's easy! Simply visit your nearest RBC Royal Bank branch
in Canada or you can call 1-800-769-2553 and speak with a cross-border banking specialist
What identification do I need to sign up for RBC cross-border banking?
To help make the application process easier and faster, please have the following pieces of information available when you complete the application:
- RBC Royal Bank Client Card,
- Social Insurance Number and/or Social Security Number, and
- One of the following valid (not expired) pieces of identification:
- Canadian driver's license, or
- Canadian, US, or Foreign passport
Where can I find the nearest (no-fee) ATM?
RBC Bank no longer has an ATM network, but you can use your RBC Bank Visa‡ Debit card at any of the more than 7,100 PNC Bank ATMs to access funds from your checking or savings account - with no fees! Or, use your card to get cash at any other Visa, NYCE or PLUS ATM. We won't charge you for these withdrawals and, upon request, we will refund you for fees other banks may charge (up to 2 for Royal Embassy checking clients and 4 for Preferred Checking clients).

How do I get cash?
Simply use your RBC Bank Visa‡ Debit card at any of the more than 7,100 PNC Bank ATMs† – with no fees – to access funds from your checking or savings account. Or, use your card to get cash at any other Visa, NYCE or PLUS ATM – whichever location that’s most convenient for you. We won’t charge you for these withdrawals and, upon request, we’ll refund fees other banks may charge; 2 per month for Royal Embassy checking clients and 4 per month for Preferred checking clients.
Can I transfer funds between my U.S. and Canadian RBC accounts?
Yes. With RBC cross-border banking, you have the option of linking your RBC Royal Bank and RBC Bank accounts in online banking and making cross-border transfers.
Is there a fee for cross-border online money transfers?
There is no additional fee(1) to transfer money online. Existing account fees apply.
Can I setup automatic transfer to transfer money between my RBC Royal Bank (Canada) and RBC Bank (U.S)?
No. Scheduled or recurring transfers can not be set up to transfer money online between your accounts. Cross- border online money transfers must be set up manually.
How do I pay bills when I’m in Canada and vice versa?
You can pay most U.S. or Canadian bills online, no matter which country you’re in; however, Canadian bills must be paid from your RBC Royal Bank (Canada) account and U.S. bills must be paid from your RBC Bank™ (U.S.) account.
Simply sign in to your RBC Online Banking(2) account, select the appropriate account and follow the instructions.
Can I write cheques when I’m in the U.S.?
With an RBC Bank (U.S.) account, you’ll be able write and cash cheques from this account.
