Antigua and Barbuda are located in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean. Barbuda lies approximately 30 miles due north of Antigua. Antigua, measuring 108 sq. miles, is less mountainous than the other islands in the British West Indies, and consists of mainly limestone or coral rock, though there are some higher volcanic areas. This island offers a wonderful vista of rolling landscape, usually with a patch of sea at the end of it. Antigua possesses 83 miles of coastline and, in fact, boasts of having 365 beaches, one for each day of the year.
It was into English Harbour on the windward coast of Antigua that Admiral Nelson sailed when chasing the French, before he overtook them at the Battle of Trafalgar, and it was in Antigua that he refitted his fleet.
