Virtual Visa Debit Pay to Win Contest

The sponsor of the Virtual Visa Debit Pay to Win Holiday Contest (the “Contest”) is Royal Bank of Canada (the “Bank”). Please read these Contest rules (the “Contest Rules”) in their entirety before entering the Contest. Participation in the Contest constitutes unconditional agreement and acceptance of these Contest Rules which are final and binding on all matters relating to the Contest.

Contest Rules

  1. To Enter: There are two (2) methods of entry:

    (a) If you are a client of the Bank and make a purchase using [Virtual Visa Debit] as the payment method, and the payment is successfully debited to your RBC Royal Bank® deposit account between November 1 , 2012 at 12:00:01 am Eastern Standard Time (EST) and December 31, 2012 at 11:59:59 pm EST (the “Contest Period”), you will automatically be entered for a chance to win one (1) of twenty five (25) cash prizes.

    (b) No purchase necessary means of entry: To enter by means of no purchase, you must submit an original 100-word or more handwritten essay on the benefits of online payment options together with your hand-printed name, address, city, province or territory, postal code, day and evening telephone numbers, email address, and mail your complete entry to:

    A no purchase entry will be entered into the Contest for the period received. All no purchase entries must be postmarked by the last day of the Contest Period. No mechanical reproductions permitted. All entries become the property of the Bank and will not be returned or acknowledged.

  2. Eligibility: An eligible entrant will have used his/her Virtual Visa Debit information to make an online, telephone or mail order payment with the funds withdrawn from their RBC Royal Bank primary deposit account during the Contest Period. Regardless of who actually makes the Virtual Visa Debit transaction, the entrant will be considered to be the individual whose name appears on the Virtual Visa Debit card. Qualifying Visa Debit transactions must be on accounts that are in good standing, as determined solely at the discretion of the Bank, throughout the Contest Period.

    Entrants must be of the age of majority in their province or territory of residence at the start of the Contest Period and a Canadian resident or, if entrant has not reached the age of majority in his/her province or territory of residence, his/her parent or legal guardian will be required to provide written consent as per Section 6 below. Employees of the Bank, its affiliates, advertising or promotional agencies, or the independent contest judging organization, or those with whom they are domiciled, are also eligible to participate in the Contest (other than employees who are residents of Quebec¹). The Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. The Contest is subject to all applicable federal, provincial, and local laws and regulations. The Bank reserves the right, in its sole and absolute discretion, to require proof of identity and/or eligibility (in a form acceptable to the Bank). Failure to provide such proof in a timely manner may result in disqualification.

  3. Draws:

    a. An Early Bird draw will be held at or around 2:00pm EST on December 19th. Twenty (20) potential winners will be drawn at random for the chance to win $500.00 CDN (see “Draw dates” chart below) from among all eligible entries received in during the contest period. [Maximum of one (1) Early Bird prize per person for the Contest Period. Early Bird prize winners will be announced on January 10, 2013 at rbc.com/virtualvisadebit (opens new window). In the case that either the draw date or the announcement date falls on a weekend, the next business day will be considered the date of the draw or announcement. Entrants from the early bird draw will be carried forward to participate in the Grand Prize draw such that an entrant is eligible to win one early bird prize AND one grand prize.

    b. The Grand Prize draw will be held at or around 2:00pm EST on January 21, 2013. Fifteen (15) potential winners will be drawn at random for the chance to win one thousand($1000) CDN (see “Draw dates” chart below) from among all eligible entries received during the Contest Period. [Maximum of one (1) Grand prize per person for the Contest Period. Grand Prize winners will be announced on February 1, 2013 at rbc.com/virtualvisadebit (opens new window). In the case that either the draw date or the announcement date falls on a weekend, the next business day will be considered the date of the draw or announcement.

  4. Prizes:

    a. There will be twenty (20) Early Bird prizes available to be won, each consisting of five hundred ($500) CDN. Prize winners will be announced on January 10, 2013. Each cash prize will be automatically deposited to the qualifying account, unless otherwise indicated at the time of notification no later than ten (10) days after the announcement date.

    b. There will be fifteen (15) Grand prizes available to be won, each consisting of one thousand ($1000) CDN. Prize winners will be announced on February 1, 2013. Each cash prize will be automatically deposited to the qualifying account, unless otherwise indicated at the time of notification no later than ten (10) days after the announcement date.

    There will be a total $25,000.00 CDN available to be won.

  5. Odds: The odds of winning a prize depend on the total number of eligible entries received before each draw date. Entrants will automatically receive one (1) entry for each Virtual Visa Debit transaction that is authorized to their RBC Royal Bank deposit account during the Contest Period and/or one (1) entry for each eligible no-purchase means of entry.

  6. Winner Notification/Prize Awards: Before being declared an official winner, each selected eligible entrant will be contacted by telephone by Stincor Van Smith Marketing as listed in the records of the Bank or as provided on the no-purchase entry submission. Potential winners must correctly answer, unaided, a time limited mathematical skill-testing question. If a selected entrant incorrectly answers the skill-testing question or fails to correctly answer the question within the allotted time limit, or cannot be contacted within three (3) business days of the applicable draw date, the entry will be disqualified and another eligible entry will be randomly selected until all prizes have been awarded.

    Each potential winner (or if under the age of majority at the time of winning, the parent or legal guardian of the potential winner) will be required to sign a standard Declaration of Compliance with Rules, Publicity and Liability Release form and consent (the “Release”) in the form and manner provided, (i) consenting to the use of their name, city or province/territory and/or image or likeness, without further compensation, in any publicity carried out by the Bank and/or its affiliates, advertising and promotional agencies relating to this Contest, including posting to a website, and (ii) releasing the Bank, the Contest organizer and independent contest organization, its promotional agencies and their respective affiliates, directors, officers, employees and agents, from any liability relating to this Contest or any of the prizes.

    If a potential winner fails to sign and return the required documents within forty eight (48) hours of receiving them by fax or email, the Bank reserves the right to void that entry and select another eligible entrant until the prizes are awarded. Prizes must be accepted by the winners as awarded, and are non-transferable. If not accepted as awarded, prize will be forfeited. Any substitution of the prize will be at the sole discretion of the Bank. Any taxes, fees or incidental charges applicable to any prize shall be the sole responsibility of the winners of that prize.

  7. Additional Terms: By participating, entrants agree to a) these Contest Rules and acknowledge that the data, records and decisions of the Bank shall be deemed final and conclusive on all matters and in all respects; and b) release, discharge, indemnify and hold the Bank, each of its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, officers, directors, and employees, including its promotional agencies and the independent contest judging organization, from any liability, claims, damages, demands, actions, or causes of action whatsoever which they, their heirs, successors, assigns, executors, or administrators may now or hereafter have directly or indirectly against them or any of them in respect of or relating to the Contest and/or the acceptance or use, misuse, or possession of any prize.

  8. Limitation of Liability: The Bank shall not be responsible for: print or typographical errors in any Contest-related materials; stolen, lost, late, misdirected, damaged, incomplete, illegible, or postage-due non-purchase entries; or qualifying accounts that are posted late or incorrectly or are lost due to computer or electronic malfunction. The Bank reserves the right, subject to the approval of the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux du Québec (the “Regie”), to cancel or modify the Contest, including extending the Contest Period, without individual notice for any reason including, but not limited to, fraud or technical failures that compromise the integrity of the Contest as determined by the Bank in its sole discretion.

  9. Privacy Policy: By entering this Contest, you expressly consent to the Bank, its agents and/or representatives storing, sharing and using the personal information submitted with your entry for the purpose of administering the Contest.   10. For Québec Residents Only: Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the Régie for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
