Credit Card eStatement - Agreement and Consent

The following agreement and consent will govern the electronic delivery of your Credit Card Statements to you. You must review this agreement and consent and confirm your acceptance at the bottom.

You consent to the electronic delivery of your Credit Card Statements subject to the following terms and conditions:

  1. Definitions

    In this agreement and consent:

    Legal Information” means important legal information delivered in addition to your electronic Credit Card Statement, including, without limitation, changes to your RBC Royal Bank Credit Card Agreement or pricing changes (similar to the inserts enclosed with mailed paper Credit Card Statements).

    Message Centre” means our online communication centre located in Online Banking and where encrypted communications may be transmitted between you and us.

    Online Banking” means our online banking service that you access via our website.

    Credit Card Account” means an RBC Royal Bank credit card account that we have opened in your name for which you have selected electronic Credit Card Statements as your statement option.

    Credit Card Information” means the important information about a Credit Card Statement that is attached to your electronic Credit Card Statement (similar to the information located on the back of a mailed paper Credit Card Statement).

    Credit Card Statement” means the statement for your Credit Card Account that we provide to you each month in accordance with the RBC Royal Bank Credit Card Agreement.” means the statement for your Credit Card Account that we provide to you each month in accordance with the RBC Royal Bank Credit Card Agreement.

    You” and “Your” mean the individual who is enrolled to access this Online Banking service and who is the primary applicant for the Credit Card Account and “we”, “us” and “our” mean Royal Bank of Canada.

  2. Electronic Delivery Process of Credit Card Statement
    1. Your electronic Credit Card Statement will be made available for you to review in Online Banking. We will provide you with access to your electronic Credit Card Statement via the Message Centre and links on Online Banking Web pages.
    2. Depending on your statement date, you may receive one more paper statement in the mail before your option for electronic Credit Card Statements is processed
    3. We will notify you that your electronic Credit Card Statement is available by sending a notification message to the Message Centre. We will automatically delete the notification message after 90 days from the date this message first appears in the Message Centre, if not already deleted by you.
    4. In addition to the notification in (c) above, you may select, in Online Banking, to have an Internet email sent to the personal email you specify in Online Banking notifying you that your electronic Credit Card Statement is available.
    5. You understand and agree that:
      1. you will access Online Banking on at least a monthly basis in order to review your electronic Credit Card Statement;
      2. if you have requested email notification pursuant to Section 2(d) above, (i) email communication is not secure or reliable and the email notification may not be received by you in a timely manner or at all, (ii) you must notify us of any changes to your email address, and (iii) your request to receive email notification does not in any way change your obligations under Section 2(e)(i) above; and
      3. we will not be responsible to you in any way for any damages or costs incurred by you as a result of your failure to receive an email notification, your failure to review your electronic Credit Card Statement or your failure to pay any amounts owing under your electronic Credit Card Statement, including, but not limited to, any interest you may have to pay.
  3. Legal Information. You consent to the electronic delivery of your Legal Information pursuant to this agreement and consent.

    We will notify you when you have new Legal Information by sending a notification message to the Message Centre. We will automatically delete the notification message after 90 days from the date this message first appears in the Message Centre, if not already deleted by you.
  4. Technical Requirements. All electronic Credit Card Statements are presented as PDF files and require you to have Adobe‡ Reader‡ software installed on your computer. We do not own or operate, and are not responsible for, Adobe Reader software.
  5. Availability of Electronic Credit Card Statements, Legal Information and Credit Card Information.
    1. During the time that you have chosen electronic Credit Card Statements as your statement option, you will be able to view in Online Banking any Credit Card Statements available to you (whether by paper or electronic means) after November 30, 2006 (commencement date of this service) for up to seven (7) years from the end period of your Credit Card Statement, after which time it will be automatically deleted by us.
    2. If you want to retain a copy of your electronic Credit Card Statement, you are able to save or print a copy of it while it is available to view in Online Banking. If you want us to provide you with a paper copy of an electronic Credit Card Statement delivered in the past seven (7) years, we will do so on request for our standard fee.
    3. Only the actual electronic Credit Card Statement will be available for viewing in Online Banking for seven (7) years from the end period of the statement. The Legal Information will be available in the Message Centre for 90 days from the date the notification message about the Legal Information first appears in the Message Centre, if not already deleted by you. The Credit Card Information will be available for viewing with a statement in Online Banking for at least 85 days from the date the notification message about your electronic Credit Card Statement first appears in the Message Centre.
    4. It is your responsibility to view the Legal Information and Credit Card Information.
  6. Co-Applicant Access to Credit Card Statements. You understand and agree that if you selected electronic Credit Card Statements as your statement option and either (i) your Credit Card Account has a co-applicant, or (ii) you add a co-applicant to your Credit Card Account at a later date, the co-applicant will have access to all of your electronic Credit Card Statements if they have Online Banking. To clarify, subsection 6(ii) means that a co-applicant added to your Credit Card Account at a later date will be able to access and view any electronic Credit Card Statements that you are able to view in Online Banking, including any prior statements that you are able to view in accordance with Section 5 of this agreement and consent.
  7. Review of Electronic Credit Card Statement. You are required to review your electronic Credit Card Statement and to check all transactions, interest, charges and fees. If you think there is an error on your electronic Credit Card Statement, you must contact us. If you do not contact us within 30 days of the last day of the relevant statement period, the electronic Credit Card Statement and our records will be considered correct and you may not later make a claim against us in respect of any charge on your Credit Card Account.
  8. Payment of Electronic Credit Card Statement. Payment of your electronic Credit Card Statements may be made via Online Banking, RBC Royal Bank telephone banking, at one of our branches or at an automated teller machine. If you choose to have your Credit Card Statements delivered electronically, you will not be provided with the paper remittance form required to mail a cheque for payment.
  9. Statement Options. You understand that it is your choice to have your Credit Card Statements delivered electronically and you can change between electronic and paper delivery of your Credit Card Statements at any time.
  10. Provision of Paper Credit Card Statements. We reserve the right to provide you with paper copies of your Credit Card Statements, Legal Information and Credit Card information in place of electronic Credit Card Statements, Legal Information or Credit Card information if we determine necessary or if we are unable to deliver the Credit Card Statements, Legal Information or Credit Card information electronically.
  11. Changes to this Agreement and Consent. We may change this agreement and consent from time to time by providing you with notice of the change electronically or in writing either before or after the change takes effect, including by providing you with notice (i) in your electronic Credit Card Statement, (ii) in the Message Centre or otherwise in Online Banking, or (iii) sent to the email address you last provided via Online Banking or your mailing address last appearing on our records. If you access Online Banking after the effective date of the change it will mean that you have agreed and consented to the change.
  12. Electronic Credit Card Statements are not part of Document Presentment Service. The electronic delivery of your Credit Card Statements as set out in this agreement and consent, is separate from the Document Presentment Service set out in your Electronic Access Agreement. The terms and conditions of the Electronic Access Agreement regarding the Document Presentment Service do not apply to the electronic delivery of your Credit Card Statements pursuant to this agreement and consent.
