Manage Payments
Can I change payments that I have submitted to the bank? What is a Notification of Payment Information Change? Why are payments Returned? I made a payment in error (duplicate or wrong amount), can I get it back? What should I do if funds were not credited to my recipient's account?
Can I change payments that I have submitted to the bank?
Search for your payment under the "Manage Payment" Tab. If the payment has a status of "Pending", you can delete the payment, make the necessary corrections, and submit it again. If the payment shows a status of "Completed", the payment has already been processed and it is too late to make changes.
What is a Notification of Payment Information Change?
This is a notification sent by another financial institution to advise you your recipient's banking information has changed. In order to ensure future payments reach your recipient, it is important that you make the necessary changes as soon as possible.
Why are payments Returned?
Payments can be returned for a number of reasons, such as "Account Closed" or "Incorrect Account Number". Detailed descriptions will appear on your Returned Items Report.
I made a payment in error (duplicate or wrong amount), can I get it back?
Select the "Manage Payments" tab. If the payment is still listed under "Pending Payments", you can delete it.
If the payment shows a "Completed" status under Payment History, it may be possible to reverse the transaction if you have written authorization from your recipient. A reversal can be performed up to 3 days after the payment was processed, on a best-effort basis.
What should I do if funds were not credited to my recipient's account?
Select the "Manage Payments" tab and search for the payment. If the payment status displays as complete, you can submit a trace request. RBC will then initiate an investigation with the receiving bank.
If the status of the payment is "Returned", the funds have been credited back to your account. You can make arrangements to settle with your recipient.
Traces can only be made for amounts greater than $20.00.
