Chip & PIN technology
The RBC Royal Bank Visa debit card features state-of-the-art Chip & Pin technology, thanks to the chip embedded in the card, providing significant protection against counterfeiting and fraud.
When you make a transaction at the chip-enabled terminal, you’re in control. Simply insert the card into the terminal and leave it there, follow the prompts and enter your PIN.
Contactless Capability
The new contactless feature included on the RBC Royal Bank Visa Debit Chip Card is at no additional cost. Pay for small purchases quickly and securely at locations that accept contactless transactions.
This feature uses chip technology to provide you with one of the most secure contactless payment systems in the marketplace. Your card never leaves your hand, so you’re always in control.

In Person
Once you have set up your PIN, your card is ready for use.
To make purchases, simply:
- Insert your card at the merchant’s terminal
- Enter your PIN on the keypad
- For merchants with contactless capability you can pay for small purchases quickly by waving your card over the terminal.
To withdraw cash at an ATM, insert your card and follow the instructions on the screen.
Online or by telephone
Your new Visa Debit Card is accepted online, by telephone or by mail order at most merchants around the world.*
Simply provide your Visa Debit Card:
- Number
- Expiration date and
- 3-digit security code (on the back of your card)
